I presume you mean USB, since no iPad has ever had a FireWire port or cable.

How much iCloud storage space is actually available?
Settings —> General —> iCloud —> Manage Storage
Check how much is being used for what.

1. Reboot the iPad (hold Home and On/Off buttons down until the Apple logo appears, then let the process complete.
2. Go to Settings —> iCloud.
Tap on your name at the top, and be sure you are logged in to iCloud.
3. Return to Settings —> iCloud.
Tap on Backup, then on "Back Up Now.
