I currently have the iPad 3. Is there a way to delete all the emails out of the trash folder without having to delete them one at a time which will take me forever.

That would be a dream come true. I know we can delete all if it's a thread but not the entire IN BOX.
Pam wrote "trash folder", not "IN BOX".
So, yes, you can "Delete All" from the trash folder.
Open the Trash, tap Edit in the upper right, tap Delete All on the bottom right, tap Delete All again to confirm.
