Re: [iPad] Apple is rumored to be killing the headphone jack. Go Apple!

Older Apple TV had an optical out jack that could be fed into a stereo or whatever if you used a stereo or speaker bar with optical audio instead of your TV.

It sounds to me (I could be wrong) like the new Apple TV eliminated that port so sound only goes to TV through HDMI port.

something like this will solve the problem but Apple should not have eliminated the port and forced the audio connoisseur to buy something extra.

Maybe I'm not understanding here.  I have an Apple TV 4 and I get sound out of it just fine.  No extras needed.

I love spending money for things Apple obsoletes.  I just spent over a hundred dollars on a device to break out an audio signal from the new Apple TV because they eliminated the digital audio port.  And I'm having problems with that device because the new ATV is too "smart".  Sigh.  This is apparently the new, Cookish Apple - little innovation, but lots of tweaks.  I could live without that.  I'm still an Apple fan, but not so much as I was a few years ago.

I suppose if they eliminate the headphone jack, someone will find something to provide an equally good line in through the power jack.  I hope so.  Bluetooth sucks.

Bluetooth is short.. You pair devices. I think the interference would be minimum. Unlike wifi that's meant to spread over long distances.

Could well be.

I wonder how if BT is everywhere, how that will pan out? As how wifi 2.4 is for many in towns.

I do think that the long term push is wireless so that may be Bluetooth

It sound like an extreme change, but in reality it isn't. If the purpose was to push Bluetooth as the go to connection, um, no thanks.
