They do Chris, I know! I was expecting someone to post about the 5C and 5S. As I see it, Apple has always had only one new model, and they still kept selling last years, and the year before, maybe even the year before that. I like that, a good option for a wider price point range. (The 5C is merely a 5, in plastic with a tickle more mAh, so it is really last years, but thats ok, nothing wrong with marketing methods)
The two sizes now are the 3.5 and the 4. I don't consider them two sizes even if technically they are. Its like 1.8 engine and a 2.0 litre. Too close. And the 4" is merely the 3.5 but taller, so the real estate really doesnt improve much at all, in landscape it is no different, in portrait, it is a useful but small difference. The other iDevices size differences that you quoted are what I consider true variations to choose from.
If they do say a 4 and 4.8 that would be great, the "cant use it in one hand" brigade will be kept happy as will the "I want bigger" brigade . Win/Win. And the annual hype machine would be great too

Careful Tony, iPhones do exactly that!
iMac - 2 sizes, 21.5 & 27
MacBook Air - 2 sizes, 11.6 & 13.3
MacBook Pro - 2 sizes, 13.3 & 15.4
iPad - 2 sizes, 7.9 & 9.7
iPhone - 2 sizes, 3.5 & 4
All of them appear to come in at least 2 sizes!

Screen size in a phone is analogous to car sizes. Make a good car with variants for those that want small or big or sporty . iMacs do that, Apple laptops do that, iPads do that. iPhones don't , yet
