Sorry.  I just meant we need a smartphone tech leap - a device that is two sizes in one - small to carry, then big to use.  Need analogy.  Paper map :  folds up to tuck into glove compartment, then opens out to use..  Carry size and use size.  Cell phones now are clunky chunks of plastic and metal that are made small for storage but far too small for anyone but a gnome to use comfortably.  Pull-out or virtual kbds are still far too small.  Need something not yet invented :0)

When the iPad came out, it was for me a Yes! moment.  I'd wanted one for years, but it hadn't been invented yet.  Like that.

Needs to morph from small to book size.  Not there yet.

I agree. In the days of old smartphones, before Apple created the modern day smartphone, users didn't know what they wanted, as you don't know what you don't know. Much like early cars, the prime use was going from A to B, what else is a car to do??

Now that smartphones have evolved, the need to make calls almost fades into the background, they are now a mini mini computer as well as a communications device. So I think users do know what they want, now. For some a 2.8 screen will do as its just a calling and text device, and cheap. For others, some want a less mini mini computer on the run so they want to carry a 5.5 phablet. Inconvenient to carry and to make calls, but perfect for their intended use. In the middle is the 3.5 to say 4.8 which is a meld of both one handed and bigger screen

Tony,

I hate to say it, but if the user knew what they wanted, we wouldn't have smartphones at all.

Ah ok, fair enough. I thought you may have been referring to that Apple decided that its one handed size was best.

Well as regards quality, I cant see why a larger phone would be an issue. Sizes sub standard? Well, the user knows what size they want, what suits their needs best, and there's been two years of these discussions about the lack of a larger size, so it seems the market knows what it wants. I will find a larger size inconvenient... I find the 4", being tall and skinny inconvenient to reach the top right edge in one hand. But like those who want a bigger phone, the real estate benefit outweighs the one hand benefit. One size doesnt actually fit all. Many prefer the larger iPad, many refer the mini iPad. As lomg as they cater for the one handers who prefer 4 or 3.5, and the others, everyone is happy

maybe it thinks those others sizes are ones it cant do well enough to meet its own standards because it thinks those sizes are substandard to begin with was kinda more what i meant.
