Does Usage tell you what content is taking up how much room?
I don't remember if this is in the iOS that runs on the iPad1 -- look under
Settings/General & scroll down a bit.
Can you connect it to iTunes to see what is on it?

Does anyone know how to empty the cache on an iPad 1st generation? 0 bytes
available on it. Can't do a thing with it. Searched everything and the
only thing I see to possible try is iExplore which is a windows based
feature that I have to pay for. This is my MIL's iPad and she doesn't do
much with it except read and do crossword puzzles. Any help would truly be
appreciated.
