Under advanced settings, Tunein has a 'pause in background' option that you could use.

I can listen to a radio broadcast my daughter does each Friday on the ipad.
When I seach for it and I get it, the app for listening on the ipad, the tuneradio app comes up.
.
After I have downloaded it, it plays the station I want to listen to.

Only problem I can't figure how to shut it off.

Closing the ipad does nothing it keeps playing.

So I delete it.
