It's not an eink reader, and it sort of depends on your eyes and your reading habits whether you would be happy with a Fire as a reader. It is actually a tablet and not a dedicated ereader. You read on it through a Kindle app. For me I have to have an eink reader and a tablet as well. I read for hours in a row and backlit tablets hurt my eyes after a while. Others report that it does not bother them. Also if you want to read in bright light, like outdoors, a tablet does not work well for that.
