In the phone space, less size, less power, less features. But if you take the Samsung and Lumia as an example, they are quite nice hardware, so the cheaper ones are also quite nice, just less of everything.
There are currently suggestions that Apple's "cheap phone" -- since Apple never makes bottom-end products -- will be an iPhone 4, carried forward. It has more than recouped its R&D costs, it' a proven, stable product, it's high quality, ....
