I am confused about what happened with this thread. It seems 2 of us are asking the same question. I wrote the original question about the Home button but Rita replied. But my answer to your question is yes, I cannot get out of an app and back on the home screen. I need to hit the top button to put it to sleep in order to do that so it is almost useless to me.
