That must be the case. I performed the same test that Jim described with video & still shots with the same upright results mailing them to myself. I also use a Mac.

I just took a test video on my iPhone 4S -- holding it with the "volume buttons" up, which means the camera was on the lower side -- and email it to myself.
Then I did exactly the same thing with the iPhone flipped over -- volume buttons on the bottom, camera on top.
Looking at the messages in Mail on my Mac, both videos are presented "upright".If you want, Tony, I can send you the two 10-second videos -- but it's about 2.5 MB total.--
