[iPad] iMessage sharing

 

I thought iMessages were shared automatically between iPhone and iPad. It's not happening for me. Is this because the messages are sent to my iPhone number rather than my email address? I've got my email on both devices but there is no way to add the iPhone number to my iPad 2. Any way to fix this?
