It is a prison, but more like a celebrity work camp than the general population prisons. Or maybe it is more like a over protective parent trying to control and protect you from the dangers of the world.
I think for the native or uninformed users, this is a tolerable situation to exist in. For these people, the benefits outweigh the sacrifices.
For the informed, this setup can be more painful.
If you don't know about what is on the other side of the wall or have no interest in it, this ecosystem can satisfy. For those of us that have tasted freedom, the Apple Koolaid can taste a little bitter.
I think the masses of people will not object to the Apple system as it is. The others have two choices: break free completely or stay and Jailbreak and enjoy the accommodation with alterations.
I choose enjoy the Apple benefits and to Jailbreak to get my contraband too. It is like paying the guards to look the other way while I enjoy my contragal visits. It is like having tunnels out of the camp that allow me to come and go as I please. It is the best of both worlds.
Thanks,
Carl W. Brooks
Infoworld noticed the Electronic Frontier Foundation's rant bout Apple's OSes and has an article, I find more interesting. BTW, Apple OS as a closed system has been discussed for at least 2 decades. See
