Where did this window appear? In Mail? In Safari? Simply on the desktop?
Software that was downloaded to the Mac from the Mac App Store should not
behave this way, but you should see that there is an upgrade when you go to
the store.
Do you remember installing this program? If not, this sounds a lot like
spam.

It could also be Malware, or it could be one of those things that installs
automatically-unless-you-say-no during some other program installation. At
least this is something you have to watch out for in Windows. I don't know
about Mac & how sneaky some of their developers are.
