well i am not certain i see how it would help except to make the card format into the format the ipad can read. i mean, it did ask politely right? what harm can come of trying? broken toe?

I format the cards in the camera - you have to do that. I always format after I've uploaded pictures to my pc. Can't see how formatting is going to make a difference.
