Re: fewer touch-typists these days WAS; [iPad] Mini Keyboard?

which is interesting because even my high school in the 80s with 292 kids had keyboarding as required (luckily it didnt apply to me) so one would imagine kids would type better. i am not doubting that it is happening i was just wanting some analysis on why or whats happeneing, is familiararity with apps more important than typing fast? i dont know. i do know that, ADA be damned, if you state upfront you are not able to type they wont hire you, even if you have been using computers for longer than the boss was alive. i'll be happy when that canges but i'll be too old to beneifit i think.

anyone else have any insights into this? wanna chim in?

No source, just personal experience.  You are correct, though. I should not have presented that statement as fact since I have not verified it. When I started working as an office clerk for a temp agency 15 years ago, every person who sat at a computer or typewriter could touch type. These days, half the secretaries or administrative assistants I have observed while visiting an office do not seem to be touch typing. They are looking from the document they are typing from to the keyboard and then to the screen.  Anecdotal evidence at best, I realize that.

can you cite a source or is that speculation? because if so, i would like to read than analysis, it sounds like an interesting phenom to go with "schools are not teaching cursive any more"

Unfortunately, since there are fewer touch-typists these days people probably need the auto-correct just as much on physical keyboards as virtual ones.
