Betreff: [iPad] About ready to take the plunge

I agree with the people who advised you to get the 64 GB (Wifi + 3G) because it is worth the extra expense.  If you are like me, you will find yourself using your iPad for more and more things in your daily life.  It also replaces many other devices such as calculating machines, MP3 player, game devices of all kinds, portable TV, radio, laptop, photo viewer/frame, book reader, and I'm sure there are a lot more, but you see what I mean!  You will be glad to have enough memory for all these things.  And while other devices often run into problems or even crash, I have so far never once been let down by my iPad. (I had the first generation one, now I have the iPad2).

I was a bit skeptical about the smart cover, partly because I wondered what would keep the aluminum back from getting scratched or scuffed. When I take my iPad with me I usually have it in a Dicota bag or an iPad sleeve case.  I have never had it happen that the smart cover opened by accident, and it is really handy to have the unit turn off when the cover is closed and turn on when the cover is opened.   It is also handy to be able to use the cover in place of a stand, and it works quite well although you might want to get a separate stand if you want different angles.  As to color, I also like blue and got the blue cover.  When I was sure I liked the way it worked, I went back and got a black one.  I also want a red one (yes, it does look smashing on the black iPad!).  Although rather pricey, it's kind of fun to change colors now and then.   Since you can whip them off and replace them in just seconds, it is no hassle at all.

LOL  No, I don't think you are nuts, I think you have done your "market research" well and will not be disappointed with your purchase.

Now to your other questions:  When you use the smart cover, you can put a protection sheet on the display, but you can't use anything (that I have seen) that will protect the back of the device while using it.  You could, however, apply a skin if you wanted.  I am very satisfied with my smart covers and think they are well thought out and clever accessories for the iPad.

You already got a good answer about where to buy your iPad.

If you will be wanting to display your photos on your iPad, you might want to get a camera connection kit so you can transfer them via SD card or camera (with USB Cable).

Good luck!  Hope you soon have your iPad and love it as much as I do mine.  Sorry my answer was so long.

Betreff: [iPad] About ready to take the plunge

Hi,

I've been reading on here for a little while now and now that the ipad2 is out and in peoples' hands, it's a busy group!
I think I'm about to make the plunge and I'd like your opinion on my choice and I have a couple of questions also if I may.

The first thing I did was to try and see how much data I thought I was going to put on the card - music, videos, documents, etc. I've come up with about 19.5G including ~7G of some stuff I found in an iTunes folder with all my podcasts I ever downloaded - why does it keep these?). So, I don't know if this is everything, but it should be a good chunk and I doubt it will sync all those old podcasts to the ipad. So, with about 20G (-7G) of data, here's what I chose:

Wifi+3G 64G - do you think 64G is too much? If I went with the 32G, I don't know how fast I'd fill up the remaining room as I've never had anything like this before and I'm unsure of how much extra headroom to leave.

I chose the black one with the blue smart cover, although the blue and pink ones are cute but the red leather one looks smashing on it! It's hard to choose, but I love the colour blue!

So, what of my choices? Any opinions? Good/bad/I'm nuts?

Now, for my questions (as if that wasn't enough)!
1. I would like to have some kind of protection on it. I have experience with something called invisible shield. Is something like this recommended for the ipad2? Is there a front and a back?

2. Will the smart cover get in the way of any kind of other cover I put it in? Is there something that works with the smart cover to protect the rest of it? Should I bother with a smart cover? Are they worth it or is it just a toy and not really useful?

3. If I order it online, it takes 2 weeks to get it. Are they available in the stores now or are they staying on shelves? Which is the best way to go in your opinion/experience?

4. Am I missing anything important? Especially something I should think about before I buy?

Thanks so much for your opinions and answers. Sorry this was so long...

B.L.
