I do have a bluetooth keyboard but haven't used it in a long time. It isn't trying to connect because when this has happened it has been 20 miles away from the keyboard, but I guess it could be that the house where I was has a similar keyboard or other bluetooth device. I didn't realize until you suggested that idea that this has only happened in one place (in fact, every time I have been there). I did tell it to forget it just now, so we will see if the next time I am there it happens again. Thanks a bunch.

I'll assume that you don't have a Bluetooth keyboard that you've connected to your iPad before. If you have then you need to go into your Bluetooth settings and forget that device.A hard reboot is my next suggestion.

Only solution is to turn completely off and turn back on. Any suggestions? Do I need to do a hard reboot?Julie
