I'm not positive but I don't think you can get rid of the notification (badge). My notification for iOS 7 has been there for a year.

How about Settings – Notifications – System ?I don't have "System" under "Notifications".
Unfortunately I have no iOS device running iOS 7 or 6, so I can't check them...
