I have no cellular connectivity at all. Att cut me off in June and the only way I can connect is wifi.

This was interesting. Today, while NOT connected to the internet (I wasn't near wifi) my iPhone informed me that software update to 8.0 was available... Wtf? Iran yea I'm still on the old OS but ummm how did it get to me? Internet is out in both towns and I wasn't anywhere near a hotspot.If it is simply telling you that a software update is out there, it can get that information over cellular connectivity.If you mean it had already downloaded the update, over cellular, then you must have a checkbox in Settings that allowed that update.
