I would look at US only initially, unless you have many family members abroad. It is an extra fee to have world vs just US. Another free site would be http://www.familysearch.org/. It is the Latter Day Saint web site. Just register and you will receive many of the benefits which are comparable to Ancestry. I personally use both.
