The people saying you need the biggest amount of storage are not wrong,
but you can feel protected by tools if you just can't afford as much as you want:
particularly, tools which let you download from and browse files on home storage
and on internet sites you can upload to.
free internet storage space,
and space from Apple's cloud features.
They are only slightly less convenient than just dumping everything you might want onto a giant-storage iPad.
