Your iPad charges when the *computer* is asleep?

Yes, you need to find a way to keep the computer awake -- in sleep mode
it saves power by turning off the power flow to external ports as well
as turning the screen off.
but actually it's easiest just to use the plug-in adapter which comes
with the iPad.
