OSes of multi-core processors have to keep track of work assigned to each processor and schedule the sub-tasks to optimise the output.

i thought osx and ios offloaded as you describe but not all OSes do

My bad -- you're correct.

I would be happier if it were the other way around, though.

I'd much rather have faster processing speed and the current graphics,
but then I don't watch or take movies with my iPad.  :-)
