The iPad 2 worked well for me. I will like the 3 more but the iPad 2 worked well for me. But it is interesting to note you can read my mind and tell me it does not. Amazing powers, better if you were right. I am dissapointed when I do skype from it the video is grainy so better camera will be nice.

I like lots of RAM so I can have 6 browsers open (FireFox, Chrome, RockMelt, IE, Opera, FireFox with 30+ tabs open, Safari) and I remote into work with that laptop. I video skype with my son in Tokyo and TeamViewer into his system every morning and RAM and may be Yahoo Messengering with several people including my boss and GF. More RAM means Skype runs fast.
So.
Why do you NOT have "lots of RAM"?
Can your machine not support it?
6 GB these days is NOT "lots of RAM". My 3-year-old laptop has that; my next will certainly have more.
My desktop supports 64 gigs of RAM, 12gigs works very well for me. My laptop maxes out at 6. Many of my poorer friends still run 1/2/4 gigs and single cores and their machines crawl when I use them. 12 gigs on my desktop is VERY fast I will get 24/48 gigs AS NEEDED not just for sake of having it money is not infinite. Since I don't game and don't use PhotoShop and don't video edit basically 6 gigs works very well on laptop (HP 8540w can't support more and desktop I may increase RAM if my system gets slow.
When I buy a desktop I know I will be doubling tripling quadrupling my RAM over the 5+ years I use it so i make sure MB can handle it. And I know I will give it away to family member or use as spare when I have a half dozen visitors and they want to check email, update their resume with word, edit an excel spreadsheet, watch Netflix, etc. or play a game when visiting GrandMom and they are awake and her asleep so they don't want a slow dinosaur when doing so I like to give away decent speed computers with decent amounts of RAM. I don't throw into landfills I give to needy relatives and friends.

I buy an OS for apps, apps, apps, apps. I prefer other Linuxes even when I do throw Linux on a VM. Most apps I want to run only run on Windows, Mac OS X, iOS and Android. Linux is a lean mean OS but without my favorite apps the computer might as well be a paper weight. I did not say it was bad - I have no use for it. Feraris, Hummers, Mitsubushi spiders are not bad. I would not touch with a 10 foot pole other cars serve my need better - my Toyota Sienna (loaded with kids and my Mom) or Camry are more practical for me. I am not ignorant of Linux distros - till they run apps I need, or run apps I already use I have little use for them.
> The reason I like lots of RAM is I tend to outgrow my system's RAM on all boxes quick because I use some complex apps. If I get a system with least RAM within a few months I will get 'out of memory' messages on any machine I ever buy as I use some cutting edge applications that can be greedy. There's no need to apologize for liking or wanting more RAM.
But you might consider explaining why, since you like and want more RAM, you only have 6 GB on the described machine.
Laptop can't have more. Desktop can. I have 12 gigs on desktop but since it is not a server that is fine for now I will add more later. I routinely deal with friends and family who have much less RAM much less. And they have a million other things ahead of buying new machines and program and data migration can be time consuming if they do so they put off.
> The reason I want to do with an iPad is I can not have the screen in my way the laptops are bulky the iPad is 1 piece and can lay flat while I watch TV and multi-task on my browsers, Yahoo, Skype, work PC I remoted into, etc.It has been well shown that humans cannot multitask at all well. Some are very good at "time-slice multitasking", but actually doing multiple things simultaneously, no.
covers this well. Most people do 2 things well very well and 3+ onwards, tasks are not done as well. I have no choice sometimes my son is erading me Calvin and Hobbes on Skype, my Boss or Team member asks me something on Yahoo and I have to remote into work to deal with it while my son is reading, and my Mom or someone else in house asks me for some task by email or in person I need to open some browsers and respond to.
> Laptops are too damn bulky...
SOME laptops are, yes.
MacBook Pros and Airbooks are the right form factor for me. Most WinLaptops with decent resolution are way too heavy and hot. I can't put HP on my lap or bed and I even have to prop up on piece of wood to keep from overheating or it literally dies of heat and won't reboot. Yes I had HP replace motherboard and fans more than once its just a design flaw when I plug in 2nd monitor the graphic card on laptop runs so hot I need to have fan beside it or it will die.
