Maria, I just went to a class for beginner iPad users (yep - that's me!
A beginner!), where the guy teaching the class had a small box (like a
Roku, but not a Roku) alongside the TV. When asked, he told us that you
needed that along with your Apple TV for mirroring. For other TVs he
said that you would use a HDMI cable. Maybe you could call or email
Apple to ask about it.

Everything works, except iPad mirroring. I'm doing exactly as it says
in the iPad manual for ios5
