Try the space bar, that pauses most media players....

Some of these don't have a way to stop them that I've seen. I think they were political. I touch the screen looking for the arrow/pause to appear and it doesn't. Maybe it's hiding somewhere but I will remember to do it the way you have had success. Thanks.Terrylatest photos at http://www.flickr.com/terrypogueThis happens to me as well. I have discovered I need to be sure to stop the actual movie, not just close the window.-----------------------------------------

Subject: Re: [iPad] Shutting up a movie
If I am listening to a political comments or movie that's embedded in a website and decide I've heard enough I close that window. (It seems to me sometimes even I quit safari.) then if I go to another site, say a recipe that has a video the political one starts again. That site isn't even in front of me I'm on the recipe site. I can't figure out how to stop it. What steps am I missing to keep it from happening? At present, I hit the "Mute" key on my Mac (although in the next iteration, OS 10.11, one will be able to mute *specific* websites.
I'm not sure how to do it on the iPad (other than a generic mute).
