No, just the discussions, here and there. Think of all the variables. God, the complexity is *enormous* - as are the risks.
As a *tiny* example from personal experience, the Lane Maintenance in my Accord is completely flummoxed if the lane markers have been adjusted out of normal because of a construction zone.
One thing that's intriguing, simply philosophically, is accident avoidance. Say the software is presented with a situation in which it's clear that someone's going to be killed in an accident that can't be avoided. So the choice has to be made to kill A or B or C. You simply can't in conscience programs for that, unless you in effect toss the dice, which, no matter how mathematically valid it may be, is morally and unethically unacceptable.
It's probably trivial to prevent a half-dozen drones from colliding with one another within limited conditions, when all of the few variables are known. Hundreds of thousands of cars of a huge number of possible configurations and conditions of maintenance on an unpredictably large variety of streets in an unpredictably wide variation of weather....
Self-driving cars, I think, are largely media hype for now, and probably for a very long time to come. Certainly, there will be little improvements - lane watch, adaptive cruise control, avoidance of collisions with the car directly in front of you, and so forth. But from there to "self-driving" cars is light years.
david, have you been able to quantify how complex it is?...if so, where?...i'm unaware of self-driven cars being used to a significant extent anywhere.

You haven't begun to see complex until you've seen highways and byways and freeways filled with "self-driving" cars.
