Re: [iPad] Re: Ordered new phone

"Tim Cool"?  No way, José.  Cook is Marketing.  Jobs was a marketing guy, too - Wozniak was the technical brains behind Apple in the early days and Jobs was the public face - but he was a visionary.  He thought and imagined outside the box.  Cook is an inside-the-box kinda guy.  "More colors, yeah!"

He said to do whats right.  I think he has. iOS has flourished with useful features, plus catchup on oft missed Android features, although thats happened each release. We now have normal sized phones like everyone else. But what I REALLY like is the vision of where iOS is going. Its continuing to integrate to the devices and OSX, hence Mac devices. Continuity, Apple Pay. We wont have a single OS thats mobile and desktop, but we will have them talking one to one, so in effect we do have a joint mobile/desktop OS of sorts.

NFC, been around forever, hardly used. Apple will make mobile payments common. Android and WP will all have similar stuff, bit it will never be seamless, you need to make it work, Apple will forge on, making it part of the OS's.

SJ created the modern smartphone, I'd go so far to say he invented the modern smartphone, but Tim Cool, is doing a great job in what is now the mature smart devices, taking that to the next level, which I am unsure of SJ could have done. His creativity ad mindset was ideal then, but today it needs a business head, TC has that.

I thought SJ told TC  not to just follow what SJ did?

That is the reason why Jobs told Cook to do what Jobs would have done.
Like all youngsters, Cook decided to do just what older generation will not approve of.

Like all youngsters, even since the Greek civilisation  :-)

From that article:

"We've seen just a few people complaining about it on the internet so far. It doesn't seem to be a genuine structural problem with the phone."

Oh, OK.  No problem.  It's a feature, not a bug.  They're supposed to bend.  Flexible Fones.

A man goes to a tailor to try on a new custom-made suit. The first thing he notices is that the arms are too long.
``No problem,'' says the tailor. ``Just bend them at the elbow and hold them out in front of you. See, now it's fine.''
``But the collar is up around my ears!''
``It's nothing. Just hunch your back up a little... No, a little more... That's it.''
``But I'm stepping on my cuffs!'' the man cries in desperation.
``Nu, bend you knees a little to take up the slack. There you go. Look in the mirror--the suit fits perfectly.''
So, twisted like a pretzel, the man lurches out onto the street. Reba and Florence see him go by.
``Oh, look,'' says Reba, ``that poor man!''
``Yes,'' says Florence, ``but what a beautiful suit.''

I put my iPhone 5 in my back pocket all the time but the pocket has to be high enough that I don't sit on it. It strikes me as very uncomfortable. I wonder if the person was trying to see if it would bend. I can't imagine sitting for twelve hours on anything but who knows but then I can't imagine sitting for 12 hours without my body protesting which is why I dread long plane trips.

I thought that, too. I also wondered if the ones that are in a case are bending. I occasionally stick my phone in my back pocket, but I don't sit down with it there. That just seems to be asking for trouble.

Today, I saw something online about the iPhone 6 bending in someone's pocket because it is so thin. It strikes me that keeping something that expensive in your trouser pocket is just plain stupid but I spent less than a tenth of the price on my second hand Nokia. I keep it in a leather pouch tightly attached to the strap of my messenger bag. I found I needed to keep it within a reasonable distance of my ears, so as to hear it ring! :D
