Here's how to change the album name:
Go to Albums tab in the Photos app
Tap the Edit button in upper right
Tap once on the name of the album
You can clear the name by tapping the delete button (x in a circle) that follows the name
Tap Done on the keyboard when you are finished
Don't tap the delete button on the album image. That button is for deleting the album, not for changing the name.
When the keyboard pops up, it may cover up the album name. If so, just scroll the visible part of the screen up until you can see and rename the album.
