I rarely use my laptop, which is a windows one & is getting old. I try to boot it up once monthy or longer. I had 39 updates last night to wait for before I could shut off the laptop. Last night I went on to go to amazon to click on the "send to kindle" to put on my laptop, so that I could make an ebook out of a PDF attachment which I did, but I would have loved to do this from my iPad. Also, I had to download Apples update. Personally, I sync to the cloud on the ithings, but I still update all the Apple updates on my laptop.
I am planning to get the 3rd Generation iPad Mini & deregistering & giving my iPad 2 to my father. This is my 1st time passing down an iPad. My father doesn't have an iTunes/ Apple account. This will be his 1st iPad. Do I need to register him from his desktop or can I register from the iPad? In other words, do I or Apple need to put iTunes on a computer in order to sync to an iPad, or can I just sync his iPad to the cloud?

Sent from my iPad
I haven't used my Windows laptop in over two years and I don't miss it. I turn it on every several months to keep it updated but that's it.
PeteHow many of you have iPads but no computer? I wish I could go that way. Problem is that I have too many movies and music. iPads don't support urging on a 1T HD and mobile iTunes just isn't good enough I can't add metadata to movies or music in mobile iTunes. Backing up to the cloud is fine but that's only 1 backup. I can't backup to an HD without a computer. Those are 2 things I need to do in order to give up my Mac mini.
