A 3rd caveat.
While this (installation through iTunes) is clearly better for a space-constrained device, since it requires only a little over 1 GB available space on the device, versus 5+ GB, "point upgrades" (8.0 to 8.01 or 8.1) are usually better (faster) on the device, since all that is downloaded is a "delta" of perhaps 100 MB or so, rather than via iTunes on your computer, where a new version of the full 1+ GB installer is downloaded from scratch.
