Sounds like a no brainier Toby. You can save costs and get a higher storage device. You cannot beat plenty of storage. 

I'm going to get the air iPad 128GB as I need the extra. Recent update is a bonus although in NZ we are not in the first wave on 1 November

Maybe you could buy the first iPad that had the 128 GB, David, whatever number that one is (4?), and get a good price.  I have it and love it.  The larger memory makes all the difference in the world for me.  I feel the same as you, not needing the other features of the new one.

I just read a summary of the new features of the iPad5 (or whatever they
want to call it) and there's nothing that I read which will make me want
to jump from my iPad4, unless I can afford the 128GB model (dubious in
today's economy) in order to store more of my digitized sheet music.
