Hi jerry: thanks, I didn't consider Apple would do anything for me since it is out of AppleCare by now. But $99 for a replacement is very good :)
Anyway, he got it working. But I'll keep that in mind for the future.

Last year, the original iPad I gave my grand daughter went belly-up. Way past the Applecare. The local Apple store asked $99 to replace it with the same thing. This was the 64Gig + GPS version, so it originally cost over $900. I was quite satisfied with the resolution. They probably would do the same for your iPad 2. Or, if it's still under AppleCare, it shouldn't cost anything.
