They probably had health-care proxies with authority to make healthcare
decisions for them when they are unable. Can certainly be helpful in the
kinds of emergencies the article mentions. Have you noticed the number of
Silver Alerts that are going out? there seem to be more of them.
Some people with dementia do wear alert pendants or bracelets but as the
article points out these can be removed.
