If you use post pay with Verizon. Just suspend your account via phone or My Verizon using the web or Verizon app. Works well. No problems.
I turned on my Verizon pay-as-you-go account the 25th of last month. Today, I got a charge for another $30. I knew I had turned off the cellular since I wasn't going to be using it. This is only the 2nd time I had turned on the cellular since I got my iPad Retina. I looked first in the apple discussions group and saw quite a few people with this same issue and no solution except to turn off the account completely. I didn't like that option so I went to my iPad and checked under Cellular Data>View Account all I found there was delete my account. So I called VZ. First guy asked if I was on pay-as-you-go. I said yes. I was out on hold for a different department. The guy I got was telling me he saw that I had paid $30 today. I told him I was on the pay-as-you-go plan and had turned it off for now. I knew the guy understood what I was saying because of the way he was trying to give his answer. He kept saying that with pay-as-you-go I can run into problems. I said yes and I have the problem of being charged when I want it turned off for now. He answered with if I turned it off now, I would lose my data I just paid for and the account would be deleted. I said that wasn't shutting off my account permanently, that I was on a month to month and I should be able to suspend my account until I needed to use it again which doesn't delete my account nor burn my sim. Again, the guy said I could run into problems doing it that way. I was on speaker on my iPhone 5 and Rob was quietly listening to the guy. Robs face was getting redder and redder. Finally I gave the phone to Rob and said, you talk to him. Ron then told the guy he wanted my VZ shut down and the $30 credited to my account. The guy said if he did that, I wouldn't be able to use my current sim again, that I'd have to get a new one and there would be a $5 sim charge. The guy said nothing about an activation charge. Rob said fine that's what he wanted. It's done. No more VZ cell for me on my iPad. I don't want to have to call every month and go through the trouble of getting my $30 credited back to my account when I know I've turned it off in the first place. I never had this trouble with AT&T. I would turn off my data on my iPad and everything was fine.
You know, I'm not mad at VZ for anything else. Their coverage is the best I've found. If I didn't have the billing problem, I would have no complaints whatsoever. I would be telling all of you what a good company they were. VZ just can't keep their accounting right. I had an account problem the last time I was with VZ, which was many years ago and I quit them as fast as I could. I consider it their fault. It's time, I thought I'd try them again. Shame on me. I guess I just didn't learn my lesson from the last time.
