Re: [iPad] Re: New Apple Maps

I haven't used the new maps extensively, yet, but I will say that I am fairly impressed, so far.  I like the look and feel of them, and there are several features that I LOVE.  For example, the ability to view a history of your recent searches.  When I was looking up different routes on the Google Maps app, I had to retype everything in, every time I switched back to something I had recently tried to find, or routes I had mapped a few minutes or even days ago.  Also, some people have said that it doesn't have points of interest - I am not entirely sure what that means (if anyone has insight, let me know).  I can see hospitals, parks, museums, coliseums, restaurants, gas stations, etc displayed just fine.  If I want to find restaurants nearby, I can type "restaurants", and pins pop up for all the nearby food locations.  Oh, and I do like that the traffic conditions are integrated.

Carl, you are right that transit doesn't work - there is a button for transit that just directs you to mass transit routing apps that you can purchase.  But I was able to bring up walking directions fine.

In short, I like the feature set more than I thought, and I expect that the data will be improved as time goes by.  I will still need to use Waze for turn-by-turn for now, since I don't qualify for my upgrade until mid-Oct.

I liked the Google Maps for transit and walking options. I commute to
work and it was nice to be able to Map a route and then get the
transit routes or walking routes instead of only driving routes. Of
course it didn't have assisted navigation like the new one. Without
this I couldn't LOVE it.

I loved it on my Android phone.
