The new app or update must include an additonal feature that is iOS6 based. So, if you dont updae the app, nothing lost if you prefer iOS5. Or the new app is not compatible, as above.

I have an ipad3 that I don't want to update to iOS 6 yet. However, as apps are updated, I get a message that iOS 6 is required to install a new app or update an old one.
