I have done it. I go to Dropbox's Uploads tab, click the "+" sign in the upper right corner. From there Insee my iPad's various folders, including not only camera roll but also any I have created on my own. I can open and choose whatever photos I want to upload to dropbox, and then choose my destination folder, or create a new one.
