They'll let it just like they allow google voice and other mapping apps. 

My complaint is that you can't have different default apps. Like chrome instead if safari or another app instead if apple maps.

Regarding using Google Maps as a substitute for the inferior Apple Maps,   it is not the same!  It is not as convenient to use,  nor does it use a full screen display like the original app did.  I do not appreciate losing a good inch and a half across the top of the screen in order to use Google Maps on the web.   We'll see what they do for an app…. Personally,  I have my doubts Apple will even let them provide it in iTunes.

Then by all means. It's cheaper. And you may like it. Although there's no debacle to speak if other than maps having a few glitches and you now gotta bookmark google maps in safari to use google. I just click my desktop link instead of the built in maps. iOS 6 for me is worth every penny I paid for it and many more.
