Apple maps is just in its infancy. I figured it would have a few problems but not like what it has now. Apple is using Tom-Tom maps. I would have thought they would have used quite a bit from Tom-Tom. The Tom-Tom app works well. What is it that Apple did or didn't do that made their app bad. We don't know.
One problem that I have with both Apple's mapping and Google maps is that they rely on "connectivity" for mapping information. I've found that the TomTom application and the "YouNeedAMap" application contain the mapping data within the app so they can be used without either a wireless or cellular connection. Quite useful when you've purchased an iPad with the GPS/Cellular radio but are too frugal to buy into a cellular data plan.
