What a lovely story, Elizabeth! Reminds me of a cat show I took one of my
Sphynx (naked cat) to. A woman stopped in front of the cage and let out a
real tirade about what an ugly cat this was, and how cruel to do this to any
creature, and on and on she went, so I asked her if she had ever touched a
Sphynx. She hadn't, of course, so I asked her to come to the back, and I
took Jamie out and let her touch him. She was so impressed by his suede
feel and his sweet, friendly personality that she immediately relaxed and
listened as I told her the breed was a natural, spontaneous mutation of the
house cat, and then she asked me what my cat's name was. Then she leaned
down to him and said, "Jamie, I said some terrible things about you and I
sincerely apologize. You are a wonderful little guy, and I am truly sorry
for what I said before." With that she went on her way feeling very good
about things, I felt good, and Jamie was happy to have had the extra
attention. That was one of my nicer experiences with Sphynx at a cat show.
