Until I did a major clearout a few months ago, I still had some fifty-cent
paperbacks -- that was the *cover price* -- I may still have some lurking
around the house even now. (even if I wanted to reread them I'd want a newer
version with bigger print for my aging eyes, not to mention
less-yellowed-paper; I could cope OK with the falling-apart aspect....)
Of course, I also remember how much I got paid at the time I would have been
buying them. :-)

I thought you were comparing it to the paperback price *today* -- of
course it'll be much more expensive than it was 20 or 30 years ago.
But the same can be said about paper editions, which are twice as
expensive today as they were 20 to 30 years ago.
