Re: [iPad] iPad 3 coming March 7th hopefully

I know iOS and Finder/Mac OSX is a variant of free BSD.

I did not claim I don't run Unix you are the one who did not READ what I said because you are too excited sending 1 sentence remarks that rarely add anything substantive. I mentioned multiple times I like Android as a Linux variant (+ a ton of Java stuff) and as a techie with a great passion for computers and technology of course I know Mac OS X is a descendant of Next Step/FREE BSD.

The fact I do not want to run Unix distros like Ubuntu does not make me anti-Unix although here I know a few of you embody jingoism anymore than not wanting a Porsche makes me anti-Porsche or ignorant. My entire criterion for OS is lots of apps and some very specific apps, high feature sets, elegance and friendliness, well documented, etc. many criterion. Just like my criterion for cars is 4 door minimum so a lot of 2 door cars just never would fit my needs it does not make me anti-2 door cars it just means I know what I prefer from a OS for my desktop and laptops. You and anyone else can run all the Linux distros you want on laptop or desktop I am aware of all distros but until they come up with a UI as elegant as the Mac put over Free BSD and a family of apps that have some apps that I truly love and run the apps that are my favorite I will not touch them with a 10 ft. pole. The fact that Android, Tivo, my FIOS box, COMCAST box run Linux forks/distros beneath them does not provide any compelling reason to use Linux for other stuff. Anymore than the fact that my Windows desktop runs SQL Server and Visual Studio and MindManager does not make me want to run Windows on my iPads.

I did not claim to not run any Unix - you inferred that from my lack of desire to run Unix on my laptop or desktop that I never run Unixes. I run them at my job from time to time, have fixed problems other Unix admins could not, and programmed on them in a few languages for several of my jobs. Installed a few on my machines and tried them. Unix is a stable lightweight OS that is from my point of view a better choice for devices (routers, Android smart phones/tablets, the guts of Mac) than bloated backward-compatible complex beasts like Windows (which still deep inside has CPM compatibility roots, DDE code, etc.). My passion for computers mean I evaluate and use all OS'es and programming languages before deciding whether it is a fit for me. Ruby For Rails is not a fit for me but I respect it and recommend it to others. I have programmed extensively in C/C++ but it is not a language I like or would choose. Not everyone that uses a Platform several times (and even uses it well) likes it, nor wants to use it more or replace a platform they are happy with - although I know all platforms even my favorite are imperfect.

Personally the more I read your jingoism about all the things you use (iPads, Unix) and your general lack of objectivity (in a Taylor-Johnson Temperament analysis context) and your constant comments that indicate your Critical Thinking and General Semantics knowledge is quite limited the less I take your opinion seriously on any matter. Which is fine, whether people respect each other's opinions is as personal and as complex as what computer platforms and programming languages and hardware they prefer.

FYI: iOS is a flavor of unix :-D
Tada! You're using a *nix!! I think its funny. No biggie you just misspoke and I am the perfect a-hole, bcuz I pointed it out. And hey just bcuz you didn't laugh it dowsnt mean its not funny any more than just cuz I laugh it makes it funny. But to me, claiming to not run any *nix while you run ios and android is linda funny.  But I'm a nerd. I was writing and hacking games  before age ten.  I'm also a slight misanthrope and a huge floozy, so maybe that adds to why I found it hilarious. C'est la vie
