As I said:
I would not touch Ubuntu or Linux with a 10 foot pole. I would use an Android Galaxy Tablet if I wanted to run any kind of Linux flavor.
The fact I don't want to run the Linux OS on my laptops, in preference for Windows 7 or Windows 8 and Mac OSX is not a contradiction or laughable, although I know about 40 messages a week you crack up over things that frankly I don't find that amusing :D
Did you even read my paragraph:
******************************
******************************
I buy an OS for apps, apps, apps, apps. I prefer other Linuxes even when I do throw Linux on a VM. Most apps I want to run only run on Windows, Mac OS X, iOS and Android. Linux is a lean mean OS but without my favorite apps the computer might as well be a paper weight. I did not say it was bad - I have no use for it. Feraris, Hummers, Mitsubushi spiders are not bad. I would not touch with a 10 foot pole other cars serve my need better - my Toyota Sienna (loaded with kids and my Mom) or Camry are more practical for me. I am not ignorant of Linux distros - till they run apps I need, or run apps I already use I have little use for them.
******************************
I have devices like Android phones that run a Linux and I love the apps and the value they add on top of their brand of Linux. But I do think people saying I am ignorant of the value of Ubuntu or any Linux is like saying I am ignorant of the value of Ferrari or Hummers or F-150 Pickup Trucks. I know my needs, and pick my computers and OS accordingly. My kids + their cousins + my Mom and all the things they need on a trip will not fit in those cars and I don't need the Ferrari's speed or Hummer gas mileage nightmares even if it is roomy enough for them. My Camry for work commutes or Toyota Sienna for family trips or hauling lots of stuff is great!
Occasionally I see that the mfr can change/enhance the OS or Hardware and make mine and other's tasks suddenly possible and eliminate the need for other devices (my laptop most of the time) so I mention it and often the mfr hears this from several quarters and does it. But I can't tell you how many times the people tell me 'Microsoft will never do it' 'Apple will never do it' as if they had some crystal ball and we are delusional to want it. And a few months or year later me and many others are enjoying the feature we were told it would NEVER have. Apple ain't that dumb. Just because you or some people don't think a feature is important and we are using the product inappropriately savvy people at Apple see a chance to win over a whole segment of users and reverse long standing edicts to do things.
