Another forum suggested checking the sync collections setting in iBooks. Although it was of in my iPad, it was on in hers. Hopefully, that was the solution, but will await the Monday call from Apple to confirm. As an aside, the Google results relate to collecting not syncing so there really wasn't much help there. Thought it was humorous that the only Google entry I could find was my similar posting on the iPad Usenet news group.
