The liver would have taken him out, if not for the transplant... Then came cancer right?
I do wish him recovery, but it seems to me that he's "retiring" to truly enjoy the time that he has left with us.

"Another" medical miracle?
As I recall, he put off the recommended cancer surgery for 8-9 months after diagnosis.
And has never been in good health since.
