So if I want to view photos, do they download to my iPad? It seems they do since I can see them in airplane mode.

What's the sense of using iCloud for storage when what's in iCloud is also on my iPad? I thought storing things in iCloud removes them from my iPad to save space.

1. Without some representation of the image on your iPad (e.g., an optimized image) how would you select images you wanted to download from the cloud at full resolution?
2. The cloud cannot be stolen, dropped, left in a restaurant while you're driving through Wyoming, or dropped in the swimming pool.
