Just be sure Air Play is turned on in Settings on your Apple TV and then use Control Center on your iPad to bring up the Air Play icon. I haven't used the Acorn app, but others work well for me both with the new Apple TV as well as the previous model.

We just got the new Apple TV, our first, and are still trying to figure it out. I would like to get Acorn because it has British and French programs, but there isn't an app for the TV. I would have to get it on an iPad and stream.
