Well said, Cathy.
I can actually do everything I want to do on a computer on my iPad Pro. Actually I could do that with the iPad Air 2 I had, but the smaller screen size would make it more difficult. I could even do music engraving on the iPad Pro, but my chosen app for that is Sibelius and it has some features that I use that the iOS versions just don’t have.
Everything else, word processing, spreadsheet, financial manager, photo editing and so forth, are all there on iOS as well as all the ‘consumption’ apps.
That said, I ‘prefer’ to do some things on the Macbook or Windows desktop instead of on the iPad Pro. So yes, the iPad can replace a laptop for many of us consumers and business users, but not all of us.

It's his job to make positive statements. Since the statement is true for many, why shouldn't he say it? I don't think there are a whole lot of people naive enough to run out and buy such a pricey device without thinking about how it would work for them as a "laptop replacement."
As far as what makes it different and more useful for some is speed, screen size which allows easy switching between apps and the Pencil for starters. That could very well make it an even better "laptop replacement" for many users than the Air. In fact, I think that's why the term "Pro" fits it. I'd bet we'll be reading how "real life" people use it as time goes by and more apps develop. After all, not every laptop is suitable for ever type of "production." For example, it would be pretty difficult to develop a complex web page on an 11" screen. For that an iMac with a big screen would be the computer of choice (for me.). Why expect it to work any different for tablets?
Time will tell.
